Region play group’s agenda auditions for their 2012 shows

Genesius Theatre is asset auditions for its primary two productions of the 2012 amount, "Man of La Mancha," that opens March 16, and "Miss Saigon," that open June 22.

The shows will be heading for by L.J. Fecho, with tune directed by Kevin Cooper, Andrew Cusano and Christopher Sperat.

Auditions will be held Jan. 3, 4 and 5 from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. by meeting only at the plays, 10th and Walnut streets.

Manufacture dates are April 13, 14, 15, 20, 21 and 22.
The Alpha/Omega group of actors will grasp civic auditions for the melodic "Blood Brothers" on Jan. 10 at 7 p.m. at the Alpha/Omega drama Arts middle, 301 E. First St.,

Birdsboro. Callbacks will be Jan. 12 at 7 p.m.

The test is open to someone age 13 and elder. There is no test fee and no ready test is needed. The role of the speaker will not be auditioned; all other roles are available.

Pantomime Auditions Announced

Halton dance groups are being urged to audition for Cinderella - this year's Halton Borough Council panto at The Brindley.

Unlike previous years, newly appointed company Pelé Productions is looking for dancing schools to audition as a group, to include both junior and senior dancers. This spectacular pantomime will run from Friday 9 December to Sunday 8 January 2012 with schools performances taking place during the first and last week.

Dance schools should prepare two routines of no more than two minutes long, one to include ballet. Suitable backing music should be selected by individual dance schools and be brought to the audition on a CD.

Last year the venue was five percent more full than the previous year's Halton Borough Council event.

With the introduction of an early bird ticket offer and the promise of star names, a fabulous set and costumes the Council hopes to break all previous panto box office records (oh yes they do!).

Halton Borough Council's Executive Board Member for the Arts, Cllr Phil Harris, said: "This is a fantastic opportunity to get involved in a professional production on your doorstep."

DANCE:

All students will participate in the Musical Theatre Dance Audition. Those who are accepted into the BFA Program and have advanced training will be asked to come back for the professional level dance auditions for placement purposes. Those auditions take place Saturday, Nov. 19, 2011, Saturday, February 18, 2012 and Saturday, April 14, 2012. Additionally, Dance Auditions will be held the Friday before classes begin.

* All candidates are asked to dress in dance attire and bring ballet slippers and/or jazz shoes, if available.

* If a candidate has never had dance training, they will be placed into introductory courses and deferred to a later audition.

THEATRE:

The candidate will prepare one contemporary monologue from a published play not to exceed two minutes. The monologue must be memorized.

VOICE:

The candidate will prepare two songs; both must be memorized. Both songs must be from the standard musical theatre repertory and must represent a contrast of style, (i.e. one up-tempo and one ballad). Selections should not be an entire song. Thirty two bars are sufficient. Selections should not exceed three minutes combined. Please bring sheet music in your key. An accompanist will be provided. Candidates may be asked to participate in a pitch-matching exercise.

Fandango offers young dancers the opportunity to continue their study of Spanish Flamenco and Mexican Folklorico dance traditions. The dancers audition for the troupe and range in age from 11 to 19. The next auditions will be Aug.13, 2011. The troupe has performed in Germany and Mexico as well as the United States. They perform regularly during the summer at the Arneson River Theatre.

Alamotion
This troupe specializes in tap, jazz, hip hop and ballet. The troupe also performs during the summer months at the Arneson River Theater, with local talent providing vocals and acting as emcees. The show features group, ensembles and solos. The next auditions will be Aug. 13, 2011, and are open to youth 11 - 24 years of age.

The producers are looking for local young dancers to take part in this year's pantomime.

Auditions are open to young people living in North Lanarkshire or within an easy commute of Motherwell.

Dancers - Juveniles

We require three groups of six young dancers aged 6 years and over.

Dancers can't be taller than 1.5 metres (4' 11").

Dancers need to be confident and disciplined with lots of personality and stage presence. We need good all round dancers with ballet and modern training.

Audition (open) - Wednesday 31 August 2011 at the Ravenscraig Regional Sports Facility in Motherwell

Please be ready to start at 4.30pm.

There is no need to prepare anything in advance. Wear comfortable dance clothes that are easy to move in.

Licences - Details of the licensing process will be supplied at the audition and successful dancers must complete the application process and supply their paperwork to the theatre within the time specified.
Commitment - Rehearsals begin in early November. You will be required at every rehearsal and at around 30 performances during the six weeks of the run. Time off from school will be essential.
Care - Motherwell Theatre will provide chaperones for the juvenile dancers at rehearsals and performances. At the audition, parents are expected to wait outside the audition area.

Chicago Luvabulls to host auditions on August 13, 2011

The Chicago Luvabulls will conduct auditions for its 2011-2012 team on Saturday, August 13 at the United Center.

The selected team of dancers will perform at all Chicago Bulls home games next season as well as many special events and charity fundraisers throughout the year.

Several hundred candidates are expected to show their talents to a panel of judges including former Luvabulls dancers, Bulls representatives and local media members.

At the end of the initial auditions, a group of 30-40 dancers will be selected to move forward to a mandatory training camp.

Open Mic UK is the biggest national music competition for singers and also solo artists in the UK, the competition travels across the country every year in search of the UK's greatest singers, singer/songwriters, rappers and vocalists. This competition open to all genres, so whether you’re into R’n’B, Rap, Acoustic, Pop or Classical – Open Mic UK has it all! Acts can present either covers or original material and they’ll be invited to a live audition in front of the judging panel.

Those who make it through the audition stage will go on to give their performance across the UK in Live shows, in front of an audience and judging panel, for the chance to sing at the Grand Final.

Auditions for 'Jekyll & Hyde' Musical, Aug.

Open auditions for the Tony Award-nominated musical “Jekyll & Hyde,” opening the 2011-2012 seasons at Sturges Center for the Fine Arts, have been announced for August. Eleven main and small roles, plus ensemble members, are open. An income for all roles is available.

An audition starts at 6-10 p.m. Aug. 3 at Sturges Center, 780 N. E St., San Bernardino. Sign-ups initiate at 5:30 p.m. Call back auditions are start at 6-10 p.m. Aug. 4, also at Sturges Center. Those auditioning are asked to bring a copy of their latest headshot with attached resume, and have prepared 32 bars of a musical theater piece, reflecting the style of the show.

Actors auditioning for a particular role will be asked to sing a song from the show. An accompanist will make available. Singers are asked to take their sheet music in the correct key. Music and selected scenes from the show will be present at the audition for the call back.

Rehearsals will be start from Sept. 12 to Oct. 13 at Screenland Studios in Burbank.

Performances are held on Oct. 14-16 at Sturges Center. The production is an arrangement by the City of San Bernardino Economic Development Agency.

A production team whose experience and background includes award-winning stage shows, television series and films has been assembled for the show.

Albuquerque woman reunite with $30,000 diamond ring

A 45-year-old Albuquerque woman is sporting a billion-dollar smile today after getting a $30,000 diamond engagement ring which she lost in 1997. "She said it was like being reunited with a long-lost love," said Lt. Louis Carlos, who returned the ring to the woman Wednesday at the Santa Fe Police Department.

The available ring had been in the agency's confirmation room for more than two years. Two weeks ago, police openly announced they would auction off the 3-karat diamond if the owner did not come forward soon.

About 25 people then claimed the ring was theirs. "Most were outlandish stories and dismissed right away," Carlos said. "There were claims of theft or it having been lost, but what nobody could come up with was proof of ownership of the ring. That is, until this woman came to us and not only explained us with paperwork to include a receipt for the ring, but photographs of her wearing the ring."

The woman, who asked police not to free her name to the media, told investigators that she charged the pear-shaped diamond ring to her own credit card in February 1997. She said her fiancé was setting up to make the payments on it. "It was about the same time the engagement broke off, so she thought maybe her ex had taken it, but she also wasn't sure she didn't accidentally throw the ring out," Carlos said. "Either way, without knowing for certain what she did with the ring, she decided by no means to file a report with police."

It is uncertain whether the woman had filed an insurance claim. The price she paid for the ring was not revealed, although it was assessed last year for $30,000, police said. In April 2009, a man and woman walked into Earthfire Gems Gallery, 121 Galisteo St., and attempted selling the ring for $200, according to police. The store's owner, who identified something was up, went to the back of the shop and called police.

When investigators arrived, the man fastened, but the woman stayed, claiming the piece was an engagement ring that she no longer sought and didn't care what price she got for it.

Police were convinced the ring did not belong to the couple, so they protected it in their confirmation room. No charges were filed against the couple. Two years later, not a single area theft report matched up with the ring, and no one stepped forward looking for it. While available evidence often is put on the auction block much sooner, the value of the ring led law enforcement to keep it for two years.

Carlos said Wednesday that there is no reason to think the man who ran from the jewelry store in 2009 is the owner's ex-fiancé Police have no idea how the pair came into control of the ring. Last week, according to Carlos, the ring's owner was advanced by a friend in Albuquerque asking if she had read the story about the available diamond ring in Santa Fe.

"She know nothing about it, so her friend pulled up an article on her phone and showed it to (the ring's owner)," Carlos said. "She said, 'That's my ring! That's my ring!' " But the next step was judgment proof of rights. According to police, the woman asked her husband to go through some paperwork in their storage space shed. The husband was able to find the papers. A family picture with the ring on the woman's hand preserved the deal.

"We had no doubt at all the ring was hers," Carlos said. "I even had Capt. (Aric) Wheeler there giving his opinion to be safe, and neither of us doubt this is her ring, so we released it to her morning."

Monday, April 25th, 3:30 – 5:30 p.m. in the MMHS Dance Studio, you will learn a movement combination that emphasizes torso control, flow, balance, leaps, turns, and rhythmic coordination.

Tuesday, April 26th, 3:30 – 6:00 p.m. will be the final audition in front of judges. In addition to the group combination, you also need to prepare a solo performance using a minimum of 64 counts (or one minute of movement). This will be performed without music. To be eligible to tryout for Drum Major, a student must have been a member of the Marching Thunder for at least one year. Students will complete an application form and turn it in to the Director of Bands.

Requirements will be to conduct an appropriate marching band selection of your choice from a tape recording or CD. You should also conduct the “Alma Mater”. You may get a CD of this song and a music score from the band office.

Each candidate will be asked to conduct 8 measures of each of the following with a cut off, 4/4, 3/4 and 2/4. (Be prepared to conduct in both marcato and legato styles.)

Also, each candidate will be asked questions by the judging panel pertaining to general Drum Major duties and responsibilities.

WCU Dance Team

Auditions for the 2011-12 WCU Dance Team will be held on-campus beginning Friday, April 8 through Saturday, April 9, and will set the roster for the 2011-12 football or basketball squads.

The tryout - which is open to any incoming Western Carolina student or current WCU students in good academic standing - begins with a three-hour session on April 8 from 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm, and will continue on Saturday, April 9 from 9:00 am until 2:00 pm. Both days are required.

Symphony Orchestra String Auditions

When are music auditions: Returning members audition March 28-April 8Incoming students will report to Elliott Hall of Music, room 135 during Boiler Gold Rush week(August 14-19 the week before classes officially begin) to schedule an audition. All new member auditions will take place Thursday and Friday of that week. Individual auditions can be scheduled at other times with permission of Professor King.

Audition Music: String players select their own audition repertoire. The audition should consist of one prepared selection involving contrasting styles (2-3 minutes in length). This could be a solo, etude, or excerpts from orchestra music. Students will play alone without accompaniment. Bling Ya Ting

You are invited to the third 'Bling Ya Ting' – a showcase event uniting local talent. The last show was a success, with over 500 participants (performers and audience) and a judge from a major arts-management agency. Some of our local talent has been spotted.

The event is being run in conjuction with Cultural Arts United, a Cambridge-based social enterprise initiative. The aim of the talent show is to bring together different ethnic backgrounds, ages, faiths, and people from rural and urban areas.The show will unite, discover, develop and showcase local talent with a focus on urban and world themes.

Due to the high interest in the show we have added a second audition date.The second set of auditions are on Saturday 13 February 2011, 11am-3.30pm at the Meadows Community Centre, 1 St Catharine's Road, Cambridge CB4 3XJ. There is no charge to enter the talent show.

The main Bling Ya Ting show is on Tuesday 5 April 2011 at the Cambridge Corn Exchange, Wheeler Street, Cambridge, CB2 3QB. Time to be confirmed.

The UNO Department of Music has two types of auditions. All prospective music majors must audition on their major instrument in order to be music major, in education or performance. Ideally, these auditions take place in the fall or spring semester for students who will matriculate in the following fall semester. Students who plan on starting spring semester should perform their audition during the preceding fall semester. For these auditions, two pieces of contrasting musical styles or periods are required to be performed for two or more UNO faculty members. Each year, the School of Dance holds two national auditions, fall and spring, for acceptance the following academic year. The first National Audition has already been finished. The second National Audition will be held Saturday, January 22, 2011 - 12:00 pm. Ballet, Modern and Jazz will be given in that order. MFA auditioners (only) should be prepared to show a short solo afterward. To secure a place at the national audition, your first step is to complete the audition application and send it, and the necessary materials, (see below), to The University of Arizona School of Dance. If you are applying for acceptance into the dance program for fall 2011, you must audition at one of our scheduled auditions or send a video audition during the 12 months prior to the first day of classes. Audition Fees: $30 for National Auditions; $40 for individual auditions; $50 for video auditions.

Scholarship Auditions

MUSIC PROGRAM AUDITION GUIDELINES

You will be evaluated on proficiency with your instrument of choice (including voice) and considered for admission into the program.

VOICE AUDITION REQUIREMENTS

Present two songs in contrasting styles which will demonstrate a range of emotional and musical styles. The songs should be memorized and sung with piano accompaniment (no recorded accompaniments).

GENERAL INSTRUMENTAL AUDITION REQUIREMENTS

Please prepare a movement of a sonata or concerto or two contrasting etudes. Instrumentalists may bring their own accompanist or perform with one of our staff accompanists.

PIANO AUDITION REQUIREMENTS

Present one selection from the Baroque era, one first-movement from a classical sonata and one free choice from the Romantic through 21st century. All these pieces must be memorized at audition.

PERCUSSION AUDITION REQUIREMENTS

Please prepare at least one mallet solo using 2 or 4 mallets, one snare drum solo at the rudimental or orchestral level, and one timpani solo. Be prepared for sight reading.

Seeking the next generation of jazz stars

The WA Youth Jazz Orchestra (WAYJO) invites developing young jazz musicians to attend our auditions, to test themselves against the best of their peers, and win an exciting position in one of our orchestras. This year WAYJO is holding auditions in December, to meet the increased demand in applicants.

WAYJO is a hothouse for Australia’s young jazz musicians. It is the bridge for aspiring young musicians to professional working musicians and provides a unique experience for jazz musicians aged 14 to 25 who are the absolute cream of young jazz players in the state. They will be rewarded with career defining experiences – touring, training and performing with world class guest artists.

Mace Francis, WAYJO Artistic Director and a member of the selection panel for the auditions, encourages young musicians to “take a chance and audition. WAYJO is the only big band jazz orchestra of its size in Australia – and it’s right here on your door step!

Eight-year-old Hinetaapora Short has been named New Zealand’s first female Milky Bar kid.

Beating out more than 1500 entries, which included three of her brothers, Hinetaapora will star in the Milky Bar television in 2011, as one of New Zealand’s majority well-known characters.

This search is opened to all New Zealanders and finally the winner has been selected.

Hinetaapora Short winner who not only has the extraordinary qualities to come through this audition process, but who also embodies New Zealand in the 21st century,” says Milky Bar spokesman Jeremy Boucher.

Hinetaapora was then chosen as the crucial winner by a group of judges, as well as taking the bulk of more than 11,000 votes.

David Walliams has apparently been offered a £500,000 to become a judge on ITV1 show, Britain's Got Talent!

Britain’s Got Talent will, of course, be two of its star judges lighter when the first round of auditions begins. Former newspaper editor Piers Morgan and Simon Cowell quit the show for some reasons. So the great opportunity and the cash go to David Walliams.

The pal has been quoted as saying that, “David is a colossal fan of the show. It's a big offer, but he's holding out for more. He won't assign until he knows accurately who else is on board” but, Amanda Holden’s still there…

Robin Hood 2011

Sanderstead dramatic club would like to offer your 16 plus dancers the opportunity to audition to be part of the senior chorus in our next pantomime - Robin Hood, to be performed in January 2011.

Sanderstead dramatic club was established in 1907 and its members have enjoyed producing regular plays and pantomimes in the years since. The annual pantomime takes place at All Saints Church Hall, Onslow Gardens in Sanderstead. It is very well supported and highly regarded in the local area with a total of 10 performances spread over one week.

The aim is to encourage young people from the local community to join in and have fun, with the possibility of becoming a member of the club and potentially taking on either small or leading parts in our future pantomimes and plays.

This year they are holding open auditions for members of chorus, dancing and singing. They are delighted to have Sarah Smith as our choreographer for the senior chorus this year. It will be Sarah’s first year as our choreographer having been a member of the club since she was a dancer in the children’s chorus and progressing to play the lead in Red Riding Hood in 2005. She then went away to university to complete a BA (Hons) Dance and Culture at the University of Surrey and returned to us last year as one of the princesses in our 2010 pantomime.

"Idol" judge Jennifer Lopez is seemingly viewing no preference towards hopefuls who sing her own songs on the hit show's auditions.

So far, the singer tells we had found 15-20 "real kings". She also says they've seen "a lot of immense countryside singers."

"We're going to have all different styles of songs," he says. A little more diversity – a little more shine before they get to the American public."

With the superior values, as always, comes negative response for numerous participants and Lopez says the elimination process is as rough on the judges as it is on the singers.

"I've cried," Lopez said. "We get a lot of delight when we put them during and destruction, almost, when they're not."

CBS announced the date and time for the new authenticity competition succession. Which features Paula Abdul as executive producer, mentor, and lead expert.

Special two hours on first day January 4 at 8pm/7 central

The second episode will run in the regular time January 5 at 8pm/7 central and will begin its live broadcasts from January 12.

The opening episode of the show will be followed by the dancers across all over the country and at the end of the opening episode dancers from all the styles, backgrounds and ages will be selected for the Live to Dance cast.

Jan. 12, the first six dance acts will vie against each other. After a total of three rounds, the six dance acts that have superior will again contend against one another in the grand finale, where they will clash for the right person to be crowned for Live to Dance champion and awarded a cash prize $500,000 prize.

Paula Abdul will be attached on the team of experts by Travis Payne and Kimberly Wyatt, while Andrew Günsberg will host Live to Dance.
