Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler are the new judges.

Jennifer Lopez and Steven TylerOur celebrated Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler are settling into their "American Idol" judging seats quite nicely

"It's grand to be rear on "American Idol. "The judges were immense."

When she announced her original gig before this month, the 40-year-old Lopez — who is earning a cool $12 million — said: "I'm looking for the subsequent Michael Jackson."

Great to hear.

Tyler, 62 said that "We're confident to send some populace back with wrecked hearts. But we should cross those wreck heart people in our career, by bringing out the young talent out there, it's going to be tough. But it's also going to be pleasurable, because they're stepping up to the plate, and so are we."

Contest seeks the Voice of an Angel

The Voice of an Angel singing opposition returns to Miami-Dade with unlock auditions programmed for this Saturday.

The Voice of an Angel singing competition is back -- and superior to facing
.

The home singing challenge, which began nearly four years ago with five home Catholic high schools, has now gone universal. This time, the rivalry is not only increasing beyond its local and state boundaries, making stops in upstate New York and Los Angeles, but also auditioning singers of other Christian denominations, age groups and Christian musical genres.

Executive producer Chris Wills, 28, a Miami native and graduate of St. Brendan High School and Barry University, says the audition will be difficult. "There's a lot of incredible gift universally," said Wills, who will serve as a judge alongside singer Chris Fedun, former member of the Christian pop group Jump5.

As in the earlier, 12 members will be chosen to move on to the semifinals in November. The grand finale will be Dec. 22. "We're doing things a lot diverse this time around," Wills said. "More than a 30-second audition, we want to get a better sense of who these singers are as people. While Voice of an Angel is a singing competition, our previous winners have shown us that to succeed in this process, you not only have to reach people with your voice but also be able to reach them with your heart."

Caro FernandezPast winners include: Caro Fernandez, 20, of Miami; Amanda Lopez, 17, of Miami; and Deanna Pavese, 16, of Fort Myers. Fernandez, the Season One winner, will host the Miami auditions. She said she's thankful for all that she's erudite since captivating the competition in 2007. The winner this year will surely have a lot to look ahead to, she said.

"The opposition has evolved so much, so when they win, a lot more doors will unwrap for them," Fernandez said. "It's gotten a lot more publicity over the years and a lot more people know about it now, and because a lot more people know about it, anything can happen."

The winner at the end of the period will have a possibility to collaborate in the Voice of an Angel CD, as well as the chance to participate in the music video. With auditions fresh off their first round, which took place last weekend in Stony Point, N.Y., the next stop is Florida.

Auditions in Miami are scheduled to start at 9 a.m. Saturday at the Morning Star Renewal Center, 7275 SW 124th St., Pinecrest. Call backs will be Sunday.

STRIVING TO BE ONE IN A MILLION

THE quest for RM1mil got underway in George Town with some 500 hopefuls from the northern region auditioning for the One In A Million (OIAM) reality singing competition at a hotel in Penang on Saturday.

Hopefuls started queuing up from as early as 8.30am to secure themselves a place for the audition. This year, the producers have opened more doors for the musically-inclined by expanding the age limit from between 18 and 30 to between 16 and 32.

Aric Lau said he was hoping that the producers would allow him to participate despite him not meeting the age limit. The 15-year-old boy triumphed with joy after managing to convince the producers that he would be turning 16 by January next year.“I might be too young but I have the talent in me. “My parents were not too happy with me participating but this is my dream and I shall strive for it,” he said.

Raja Farah Afzal Raja Ikram believed she had a 100% chance to pass the audition with her years of experience as a night club singer. The 23-year-old caught the public’s attention with her metre-long dreadlocks.“I can only wash it three times weekly and I will have to shave my head bald if I were to change to any other hairstyle,” she said, adding that her husband, who is a reggae musician, styled the dreadlocks for her.“I like it very much and it shall be my signature hair which I believe would leave a deep impression on the judges,” she said.

Student Muhammad Adul Latif Muhammad brought along his guitar to help him ‘fight the battle’.“I wanted to prove that I’m talented in singing and in playing musical instruments as well.
“This would be a plus point for me to win the judges’ hearts,” the 20-year-old polytechnic student said.

Primeworks Studio Sdn Bhd senior producer Zebedee Ernest de Costa, who oversees the project, said they were not only looking for good singers but also real stars from the auditions.“There’re a lot of people who can sing well but we want someone who can entertain the people. He or she should have their own style rather than imitating a particular artiste,” said Zebedee, who was also an audition judge.Auditions for OIAM started on Nov 15 in Kota Kinabalu and Kuching, before moving to Johor Baru and George Town.

Those who missed the auditions can still head for the last one in Berjaya Times Square in Kuala Lumpur on Nov 29.Qualified contestants would vie for the main judging from Nov 30 to Dec 1 where the top 80 contestants would undergo a central elimination from Dec 11 to Dec 19.
