FIFA Foot ball world cup 2010 in S.A promo in newspaper

FIFA World Cup 2010
Sunday Times readers will get a free Panini FIFA World Cup sticker album memento in this week’s edition of the paper. Italian company, Panini, has the special licensing rights from FIFA to make public the sticker book and stickers. The album contains information on the 32 competing nations and their players.

“This is the first time that Panini has stimulated a mass-market album sampling campaign in South Africa. Putting albums directly in to customer’s hands enables more people to connect in sticker collecting and so we’re expecting Panini’s 2010 FIFA World Cup stickers to be the major sports collectable South Africa has ever seen,” says Simon Benton, Panini Group Export Director.

“We’ve been running similar newspaper promotions in dozens of countries since 2004 and they’re always a great success. It’s very important that we work with the biggest newspapers in each market as this is a unbelievable consumer offer that deserves the widest possible reach and consciousness which is obviously provided by The Sunday Times’ four-million strong readership,” adds Benton.

Readers will get six free stickers in Sunday Times on 9 May. These will be stitched into the monthly Sunday Times soccer comic, Supa Strikas, The collection will be available in CNA; Woolworths; Spar; Pick ‘n Pay; Checkers; Engen; Edgars; Jet; and other retailers as well as independently owned newsagents. The album will sell for R19.95 per copy from 3 May until end of September.

“For every FIFA World Cup since 1970, it’s been recognized that collecting Panini stickers is the most accessible way of becoming involved in the world’s greatest football tournament. We are thrilled to be collaborating with Panini on this promotion,” says Susan Russell, General Manager of Marketing for Avusa Media.

“We have collectors of all ages and in many markets and for them, completing the World Cup album, becomes a national obsession!” concludes Benton.

In addition to the sticker collection, the only official 2010 FIFA World Cup Trading Card game, Adrenalyn XL will also be on sale. The game allows collectors to create a team from their favourite players, regardless of nationality, and then play off against their friends.
